If you’re currently living in our halls, now’s the time to start planning your accommodation for the 2026–27 academic year.
You have two great options:
Option 1: Move into private housing
If you’re ready for a change, Leeds has plenty of student properties but finding the right place for you is important, which is where Unipol come in!
Unipol are a one-stop-shop for everything student housing; including deposit advice, flatmate finding events and they even have their own houses too. You can visit their website which contains lots of advice and speak to them in person at their office on Woodhouse Lane (next door to The Fenton).
Unipol Code Accredition
'Unipol Code' landlords commit to higher standards than the legal minimum which means you can be certain that the properties are safe and well-maintained, that Landlords have evidence of communicating clearly and managing the properties responsibly and that there is a formal complaints process if something goes wrong.
You might have heard horror stories of student rentals, by living at a Unipol Code accredited property, you can rest easy that it is good quality with faster and more reliable repairs - basically you can avoid being misled and dealing with a poor situation next year.
Your House Hunting Checklist
Before you make a decision, work through these steps:
If you choose to stay in halls, either as a group or an individual make sure to apply early to secure your spot.
Moving to private accommodation? Start considering where you want to live such as:
- Distance to campus
- Transport links across Leeds
- Local amenities such as food shops, gyms etc.
You might already have an idea of who you want to live with next year, so make sure to have a conversation to discuss your expectations for next year accommodation before you start to look for places to view.
Not sure who to live with next year? Join our Find a Flatmate event!
We know it can be tricky figuring out who to live with, especially so soon after starting university. That’s why we’re hosting our Find a Flatmate event, a relaxed, friendly space where you can connect with others who are also searching for future housemates.
During the event, you’ll get a chance to reflect on what kind of housemate you're looking for, by the end, you might just meet someone who’s on the same page!
Date: 26 Nov 2025
Time: 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Location: Room 6, LUU
Halls include bills in the price but private housing usually doesn’t so make sure to review your finances and the cost of moving.
You need to factor in payments you will be making such as utilities (Wifi, Water, Energy bills), the deposit needed and rising living costs.
- Look for Unipol Code properties for extra peace of mind
- Read the contract carefully - you can reach out to the LUU housing team or Unipol to look over the contract before you sign it for extra support.
- Understand your responsibilities as a tenant and what’s included in the accommodation before signing the contract. Some houses are partially furnished or not furnished which means you will have to pay for furniture when you move in, so check before you sign.
- Take your time, there isn't a rush it's better to take your time to really research and consider what's right for you.
- We have created an article covering myths on househunting which answer common myths you might face.
- Finally, get support if you need it. You are not alone there are plenty of resources available to you to ensure the process of house hunting goes smoothly.
Option 2: Stay in halls for another year
Love living here? Each year we have a number of rooms that we are able to offer to students who wish to return to University accommodation, so you can apply to return for another year!
Staying in halls means:
- Value for money as rent includes WiFi and energy bills
- Your Edge Premium gym membership will continue to be included in your rent
- You will still have access to Residence Life services such as our support, activities and events throughout the year
- Shorter contracts, meaning to rent to pay over the summer months
- No deposit or guarantor needed
Applications close on 31 December 2025. Please note that some residences are more popular than others and if demand is high, we may close applications for some, or all, residences earlier.
