Mental Health Matters: Suicide Prevention Training
As we approach Mental Health Awareness Week, the Residence Life Team has partnered with PAPYRUS to host suicide Prevention Overview Training on 7 May 2024 from 1:00pm - 2:30pm.
PAPYRUS is a national charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide and the promotion of positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people. They are the leading youth suicide prevention charity in the UK. PAPYRUS offers professional advice and information to young people are those who are worried about them when suicide becomes part of their lives experience. One of their main goals is to equip others with the necessary skills to identify signs of suicidal thoughts and behaviours and to enable effective suicide intervention initiatives.

SPOT – Suicide Prevention Overview Tutorial. What EVERYONE needs to know.
The key objectives are
- To understand the prevalence and impact of suicide
- To explore the language, and the challenges, when talking openly about suicide
- To recognise the ‘signs’ that may indicate someone is having thoughts of suicide
- To consider how we can all contribute to a suicide safer community.
Accessible Information for Room 1.07, Newlyn Building
Lift to 1st Floor
The lift is located to the right as you enter along the corridor and to the left. There is a clear level manoeuvring space of 150cm × 150cm in front of the lift. The clear door width is 100cm (3ft 3in). The dimensions of the lift are 150cm x 150cm (4ft 11in x 4ft 11in). There is not a hearing loop system. The lift does not have Braille markings.
Accessible Bathroom
The accessible toilet is located to the right as you exit the lift on the first floor, along the corridor and on the right.
