This guide is for international students who have just moved to Leeds. We have filled this article with tips & advice from a former international student, with the aim of making your arrival more welcoming.

Explore the City

Leeds is a vibrant and welcoming city with plenty of events throughout the year. Popular highlights include Leeds Light Night, Leeds International Film Festival, Leeds Pride, and the festive Christmas Market and seasonal events.

Get involved during Welcome Week

Take advantage of International Orientation and Welcome Week activities. They are a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, learn about university life, and build your support network from day one.

Check your emails regularly

Important information from the University, your School, and your accommodation team will usually be sent by email. Checking your inbox regularly will help you stay informed and avoid missing key deadlines.

Don't be afraid to ask for help

Everyone needs support when settling into a new country. Whether you have questions about accommodation, studies, banking, healthcare, or daily life, there are plenty of university services and friendly staff available to help.
