How long have you been working at the University? Since September 2019

Background Information:

I'm originally from Cyprus, I've lived and studied in a few different places in Europe over the years, and I've been in Leeds for the last seven.

I really enjoy trying new experiences. I've studied in three countries, lived in six, and can speak three languages. In my free time, you'll usually find me practising Latin dancing, sampling new cuisines, learning languages, going to gigs, and travelling. I've also got a bit of an obsession with Ireland, so I'm always on the lookout for Irish trad sessions, pubs, and bands visiting locally, and I make it a point to visit Ireland at least once a year.

My favourite place in Leeds has to be Kirkgate Market, as I absolutely love the variety of cuisines you can find there, all in one place. Whether it’s Greek, Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese (the list is endless), there’s always something new to try. I’m also a huge fan of the Polish bakery there, because it's the only place so far where I've found gorgeous desserts that remind me of home.

I’ve been a Warden for many years, so trust me when I say these things really help!

1) Read your contract: Familiarise yourselves with the policies in our halls, so you can help maintain a comfortable, enjoyable, productive, and safe environment for everyone.

2) Agree on flat expectations early: Sit down with your flatmates and chat about cleaning, guests, parties, noise, and how you want to live together in general. Taking the time to agree on things from the start can prevent lots of conflicts later.

3) Talk to each other: You’re living with new people, so a few disagreements are normal. The key is to talk things through in person, with respect, and early on. Do not let issues build up.

Remember that, if you do experience any issues, the RLAs and I are here to help.

Contact Information

You can contact me by emailing CarltonHill@leeds.ac.uk.

My normal working days and hours are Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm during term time (excluding University closure days and bank holidays).

I’m also supported by four Residence Life Assistants (RLAs), who you can reach out to for immediate, discreet, and empathetic support by phoning 07345436087 from 6pm until 8am on weekdays and all day on weekends and bank holidays during term time.

Residence Life Social Committee

This is the fourth year Carlton Hill has been in operation, and it’s already become one of the most active and vibrant University of Leeds residences to live at! However, we need your input for this to continue, so please consider joining our Residence Life Social Committee (RLSC), the role of which is to run community-building, fun, and inclusive events for Carlton Hill.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your leadership and other transferable skills, enhance your CV, and expand your social circle while having fun!

Did you know that our Social Committee was nominated in almost all eligible categories in last year’s Halls Awards? That’s some of us in the photo proudly celebrating our nominations and wins!

If you haven’t already done this, don’t forget to follow the Carlton Hill Social Committee on Instagram (@carltonhillsocialcommittee) to keep up-to-date with all that’s happening at our residence (and beyond) over the year.

I can’t wait to meet all of you soon, and I hope you have a great start and a fantastic time with us this year!
