Meet your Warden at Leodis
Fawz Duwhy
Hi everyone! I am Fawz your Warden for Leodis Residences.
I am originally from Iraq and moved to the UK in 2013. In 2017, I moved to Leeds to study Law as an undergraduate.
During my first year, I lived in Central Village, which was a great introduction to both the University and the city. After completing my undergraduate degree, I went on to undertake a Master's degree in 2020.
In 2021, I joined the School of Law as a Student Success Fellow, where I have been supporting students throughout their academic journey.
Living and working in Leeds over the past several years has given me the opportunity to build strong connections with both the University and the local community.
A fun fact about me is that I love travelling and experiencing new places through their local street food, I think it's one of the best ways to get to know a culture.
Whenever I visit a new city, I enjoy seeking out hidden gems, whether that's a local market, a cosy coffee shop, or a family run food stall.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cycling, and getting creative with handmade crafts.
My top three tips for living in Halls are:
- Get involved from the start
Say yes to events, introduce yourself to your neighbours, and don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. The friendships you make in your first few weeks can last a lifetime. - Keep a good balance
University is about more than studying, so make time to explore Leeds, join societies, stay active, and look after your wellbeing alongside your coursework. - Be considerate of those you live with Respect shared spaces, communicate openly, and be mindful of different routines and cultures. A little kindness and understanding go a long way in creating a positive living environment.
Residence Life Social Committee
Whilst in Halls you have the opportunity to join your Residence Life Social Committee!
The Residence Life Social Committee programme (RLSC) provides you with the opportunity to run events for residents in your hall, and to make the most of your time in halls.
You'll meet regularly as a Committee and work within a budget to plan exciting social events, fundraisers and campaigns. It’s a great way to meet people, get involved in the community and develop important professional skills including event management, teamwork and time management.
You will also get to be part of a wider personal development programme focused on expanding your leadership and team-building abilities.
