My name is Dr Darron Dixon-Hardy and I am your Residence Life Warden. I’ve been Warden of Devonshire Hall for 24 years and I’m a member of the Aviation academic staff. ‘Dev’ is the most active residence the University has and excels in music, drama and occasionally sport. During your time at Dev, there will be lots of opportunities to get involved in its active social calendar. We have formal dinners, open mic nights, concerts, plays, a musical, a Christmas Ball and a week-long DevFest in the summer term, all open to Dev students regardless of whether you are catered or self-catered.
As Residence Life Warden, I’m responsible for ensuring that you have a great experience in Dev by providing support but also dealing with any discipline issues that may arise. So, if you have any questions or problems then do let me know and I will be happy to assist you. You can contact me via email at mindwd@leeds.ac.uk
I’m assisted by a team of four Residence Life Assistants and members of the Devonshire Hall Senior Common Room. Residence Life Assistants are also students and have lived in halls so have a wealth of knowledge and experience that they will be happy to share with you. There is a Residence Life Assistant on call every night and all weekend during term time, meaning that there is always someone you can call on for support or advice. The duty Residence Life Assistant contact number is 0781 629 6828; make sure you save this number in your phone.
Dev has its very own Freshers Week with events intertwined with those hosted by Residence Life and I would encourage you to join in and get to know people. There will be a Welcome Talk on Saturday 21 September for self-catered students and Sunday 22 September for catered students, both held in the Dev Dining Room at 5 pm, where you will learn everything you need to know about living in Dev and what it has to offer.
Dev has a very active Junior Common Room (JCR) which organises and runs all the Hall's social events. If you'd like to apply for one of the JCR Exec roles let me know and click on this link Devonshire Hall Junior Common Room; it’s a wonderful opportunity to enhance your Leeds experience and to really make a difference in the community at Dev!
Enjoy the rest of your summer and see you in September!
