Hello, and welcome to Charles Morris and to the University of Leeds!
At Charles Morris, your Warden is here to support you with anything you need during your time living with us.
You will have the chance to meet your Warden during your move in period, and at your Mandatory Warden Welcome Talk.

Meet Charles Morris's Warden
Adam Richardson
Located right at the heart of the university campus, Charles Morris is, in my humble (if somewhat biased) opinion – the best place to be in halls.
From Charlie Mo you are just minutes away from the main lecture theatres, a short stroll from the Students Union and are surrounded by the families of resident rabbits that roam the campus.
Role at the University: Digital Education Manager (Student Education)
Background Information: I'm originally from close to Birmingham, which makes me - until recently - and a long-suffering Aston Villa fan. I came to Leeds in 2007 as an undergraduate to study English and History and then never left!
After completing my BA, I studied an MA by Research and PhD in History, specialising in the Foreign Office and British foreign policy in the twentieth century. Before working in my current role in Digital Education, I was a Lecturer at Leeds in International History.
- I love to travel. Favourite places include the Rocky Mountains in Canada, Zermatt in Switzerland and Iceland (where I saw the Northern Lights from a car park at the Blue Lagoon)
- Watching Sci-Fi. I'm currently devouring Star Trek Strange New Worlds, but happy to discuss Buffy, Red Dwarf, Twin Peaks, Battlestar Galactica and many more (although my favourite show of all time is The West Wing).
- Steam Trains and epic rail journeys. There's nothing that matches the elegance of a classic steam train, and travelling by train on scenic routes (Canada, Scotland, Norway, Switzerland and more) is the best way to see a country.
Saltaire. It's a little bit out of Leeds, but you can get there in 14 minutes by train.
A grand day out has to involve visiting Salts Mill for the book shop and artwork (including David Hockney) and then a stroll either in the park or along the canal.
- Get to know your flatmates
Take time in the first week to get to know the people you live with and decide how you want to live. Have the discussion in person, and don't just message on your phone as that can cause misunderstandings. While you don't have to best best friends with your flatmates, it makes everything a lot easier if you know each others expectations. - Get involved
Go to events in your hall to meet lots of new people. If you want to get really involved, join the Residence Life Social Committee and put on events for residence. It's a great opportunity to build skills in leadership, event organising, financial planning, marketing and so much more. - Intro period is odd
There's so much going on in intro period it can easily get overwhelming and it can feel disorientating as your course won't start until week 1. Once your course begins, you'll start to get into a routine with a timetable and study time - then it begins to feel easier.

I am assisted by an excellent team of 4 Residence Life Assistants, who all live on site. Together, it is our responsibility to ensure that you are happy and are able to make the most of your time with us. There is a Residence Life Assistant on call every night and all weekend during term time, meaning that there is always someone you can call on for support or advice.
The duty Residence Life Assistant contact number is 0790 361 0194 - make sure you save this number in your phone as I can guarantee you’ll need it at some point during the year.
If you face any challenges or issues, however big or small, please do come and speak to me or the team. We will always do our best to help or to refer you to the most appropriate service at the University.
Residence Life Social Committee
Every year we excel at Charles Morris in social activities, sports and events. During your time with us there will be plenty of opportunities to get involved in our active social calendar. We have a Christmas Ball, a summer party, film nights, pizza nights, trips and plenty of other things to look forward to. You can even join us at the local Parkrun if you fancy a Saturday morning run!
We would love you to get involved in these events too. Being part of the Residence Life Social Committee is not only a great opportunity to make a difference to your halls experience and community, it’s an exceptional opportunity to develop your leadership and team working skills.
My favourite part of being a Warden is working with residents to put on these events for the community, so do put yourself forward to join the committee. We always want to try new and exciting events, and in the last few years the Charles Morris committee have won several awards including ‘Social Committee of the Year’ at the annual awards night.
