One of the best parts of living in University of Leeds accommodation is being part of a vibrant student community.
Throughout the year, the Residence Life team organises a wide range of events, activities, and opportunities designed to help you make friends, develop new skills, have fun, and make the most of your university experience.
Whether you're a first-year student, a postgraduate, an international student, or simply looking to meet new people, there's something for everyone.
A warm welcome from day one
Residence Life events begin from the moment you arrive in accommodation.
Welcome activities are designed to help you settle in, learn more about campus, and connect with other students living nearby.
These events provide a relaxed and friendly environment where you can:
- Meet new friends and neighbours
- Explore your accommodation and local area
- Learn about university services and support
- Start building your Leeds community
Remember, many students you meet will arrive without knowing anyone, so Residence Life events are a great way to break the ice together.
Smaller events
We understand that not everyone wants to take part in bigger events!
That is why we put on frequent, regular events that are more low-key such as crafting events and our popular Lego Café so there is something for everyone.
Active and outdoor events
Staying active is a great way to improve both physical and mental wellbeing. Residence Life often works alongside university partners to offer activities that encourage students to get moving.
You will have the chance to:
- Take part in sports and recreation sessions
- Explore the UK through day trips
- Take part in outdoor activities and challenges
A chance to meet new people
One of the most common concerns students have when arriving at university is making friends.
Residence Life events are specifically designed to create opportunities for you to connect with one another.
Whether you attend alone or with your flatmates, you'll meet people from different courses, years, backgrounds, and residences across the University.
We also have a Buddy Programme to support you with making friends through our events!
Getting involved
Most Residence Life events are free or low-cost and we ensure accessibility is front and centre, providing information prior to the events around what to expect and making adjustments to ensure everyone has the opportunity to have a great experience.
Keep an eye on event announcements throughout the year, and don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone.
Trying something new is one of the best ways to make the most of your time in halls.
Make the most of your university experience
Living in university accommodation is about more than just having a place to stay. It's an opportunity to become part of a supportive, diverse, and welcoming community.
By getting involved with Residence Life events, you'll have the chance to meet new people, learn new skills, discover new interests, and create memories that will last a long time.
