International students: Before you arrive

Advice to help you prepare

Starting university in a new country is exciting, but good preparation can make your transition much smoother.

Here are some helpful tips before you travel to Leeds:

Complete the essential pre-arrival tasks

Visit the University's Welcome webpages and work through the essential tasks before you arrive.

These step-by-step guides will help you prepare everything from enrolment to accommodation.

You can also book the University's free airport pick-up service if it is available when you arrive.

Check your flight baggage allowance

Some airlines offer international students an additional baggage allowance when you book using your university offer or student status. Be sure to check directly with your airline, as policies vary.

Connect with other students

Consider joining student social media groups or online communities before you travel. You may be able to find an "airport buddy" travelling at the same time, making your journey less stressful and helping you make friends even before you arrive.

After you confirm that you will be studying at University of Leeds and accepted an offer of accommodation in University of Leeds halls you will be invited to join the Unibuddy platform, a space where you can meet other students who will be living in your halls.

Look out for an email coming to your University of Leeds email address with your personal invitation to the community.

If you haven’t received your invitation yet, sit tight – your invitation will be with you soon!

Prepare important documents

Keep digital and paper copies of important documents such as your passport, visa, CAS letter, accommodation confirmation, and emergency contact information. Having these readily available can save time if needed.
