Respecting your accommodation

Using accommodation properly and respect fellow residents

In order to use your accommodation properly and respect your fellow residents, there is certain guidance you must follow.

  • You should not bring any unpermitted items into your accommodation. Please make sure you have read our article on what not to bring to halls, which lists items not permitted in University accommodation.
  • You must not decorate your accommodation or the shared areas you use without first obtaining the written permission of our Senior Residences Manager (who is under no obligation to agree to decorating). Unauthorised decoration will be regarded as damage.
  • You need to report any damage or faults you find in your accommodation straight away, and you can find out how to do so here. You will be charged for any damages that you cause, deliberately or accidentally. You will also be charged for any damages in an area over which you have sole or joint control if the person who has caused the damage cannot be identified.
  • You should not interfere with any electrical equipment, gas installations/appliances or any fire-fighting equipment (without good reason).
  • You must not use your accommodation, or any other part of the residence, for business purposes (including the promotion of events that are not organised by Leeds University or Leeds University Union, distributing flyers or posters and selling of tickets) or for any illegal activity.
  • You cannot sublet or share your accommodation.  You agree not to transfer your tenancy without written permission from our Accommodation Services team.
  • If you have a bicycle, please use it responsibly and leave it only in the designated bicycle areas.
  • You agree that if you bring a vehicle to the residence, you will only park it in one of the designated bays and will display the relevant parking permit (additional fees apply). You agree to drive responsibly and with due care and attention, obeying any traffic and road regulations at the residence. If you have a bicycle, you agree to use it responsibly and leave it only in the designated bicycle areas.
  • The only animals permitted in our residences are guide dogs. You may not have any other animals in your residence.
  • Please dispose of products correctly – only dispose of toilet roll down the toilet. Put anything else into a bin. This includes sanitary products, condoms, cotton buds, hair, toilet block cages and disposable wipes – even “flushable” ones. In the kitchen, don’t wash leftover fat, oil, greasy sauces or food scraps down the sink.
