Christina Papathanasiou wins at the ASRA Awards 2026

Christina has been a Residence Life Warden for the past five years, working to help students foster connections, develop their wellbeing and promote a safe and respectful living environment.

This year, Christina won at the ASRA Awards 2026, which celebrates the outstanding individuals and teams making a real difference across student residential accommodation, recognising excellence, innovation, and dedication across the sector.

What truly sets Christina apart is her genuine care for student wellbeing. She is approachable, kind, and deeply invested in helping residents navigate both the challenges and joys of university life.

- Sarah Djuric, Residence Life Manager

Christina has made incredible effort to go above and beyond in supporting her students at Carlton Hill, making sure that students have not simply an ‘okay’ experience living in halls, but a truly positive and joyful one, and that they feel they have had opportunities to gain experiences and skills that will positively shape their future.

A big part of this is making a conscious effort for her and her team to be highly visible and contactable on a daily basis, actively seeking honest feedback from students, and offering them opportunities to be involved in decision-making that concerns both them and the wider University community.

"I’ve received lots of feedback from students describing me as ‘motherly’, which surely can’t be a coincidence anymore and which I honestly consider a huge honour. I’m indeed immensely caring, empathetic, approachable, and friendly, but also fair, consistent, transparent, and firm when needed."

- Christina Papathanasiou, Warden for Carlton Hill

Her guidance, encouragement, and ability to bring out the best in her student leaders have contributed directly to the success of her site. This is reflected in the impressive number of awards her students have earned at the annual Halls Awards, including RLA Team of the Year and the Rising Star Award in 2023, Event of the Year, the Student Leadership Award, and Exceptional RLSC Member of the Year in 2024, and the Halls Hero Award in 2025. These achievements highlight the positive culture she cultivates and the lasting impact of her mentorship.

We are all incredibly proud of Christina's well-deserved recognition as ASRA ResLife Hero of the Year 2026. Her passion for making the halls experience the best it can be has really shone through with all the hard work that she has consistently put forward throughout her five years in the role.

Congratulations Christina!
