Using extension leads and adapters safely

Make sure you're using adapters correctly
  • If you need to use extension leads or adapters, you must ensure they are safe to use in the UK and should check the rating to ensure it can handle the wattage of the appliances you are plugging in.
  • Do not overload them or plug in more appliances than it can handle.
  • Only ever use one extension lead per socket.
  • If the extension lead appears damaged, cracked or worn, discard it and do not continue to use.
  • When using the extension lead, make sure the cable is unwound, uncoiled, and detangled to avoid creating a trip hazard.
  • Always unplug extension cords when you're done using them.
