Hello, and welcome to White Rose View and The Plaza!
Whilst in halls, your Warden is here to support you with anything you need during your time living with us.
Meet your Warden for White Rose View and The Plaza
Paul Kerr
Hi everyone! I am Paul your Warden at White Rose View and The Plaza.
I joined the University of Leeds four year ago and work as a Marketing Events Executive.
I'm from the beloved home of The Great Pottery Throwdown, Robbie Williams and oatcakes : Stoke-On-Trent! I left this utopian paradise in 2016 to pursue a BA in History at the University of York, then completed a Masters in History there too.
After working at York for a bit, I met my wonderful girlfriend Mia and we moved in together in Leeds, landing a job at the university too. I fell in love with the city and have spent four years here with Mia and our cat Goop.
I'm really into film, and regularly put on film screenings across the north of the country! I love collecting physical media, from blu-rays to vinyl and frequently bankrupt myself doing so.
Being in Leeds also gives you access to so many amazing rural hikes and scenic trips, so I have been on many adventures across Yorkshire and the north with my bright yellow tent Marge. One of my favourite spots in Yorkshire is Kisdon Force - a series of cascading waterfalls, some of which you can jump off into plunge pools below and swim around.
- Every great experience, encounter, friendship, begins with mutual respect. Treat people how you hope to be treated, take time to listen and understand people, and you're bound to make incredible memories during your time in halls.
- It's ok to not know! Where are the nearest supermarkets? What time is it ok for me to cook dinner? How loud can my music be before my neighbour can hear it? What societies should I join? It's a LOT! And no one has all the answers when they arrive. Be brave, ask each other questions, tap into the support available and you'll feel settled in before you know it.
- Put yourself out there - there's so many activities and events to get involved in from the get go, both in your residence and across campus. You don't have to conquer every opportunity, but giving new things a go early can lead to lifelong obsessions and lasting friendships.
The first time I felt brave enough to go into my shared kitchen, I met my best friend Max and we bonded over breadsticks. We've now known each other for ten years! Unpack your room, get settled in and then get back out there. You have everything to look forward to.
Residence Life Social Committee
Whilst in Halls you have the opportunity to join your Residence Life Social Committee!
The Residence Life Social Committee programme (RLSC) provides you with the opportunity to run events for residents in your hall, and to make the most of your time in halls.
You'll meet regularly as a Committee and work within a budget to plan exciting social events, fundraisers and campaigns. It’s a great way to meet people, get involved in the community and develop important professional skills including event management, teamwork and time management.
You will also get to be part of a wider personal development programme focused on expanding your leadership and team-building abilities.
