Hi everyone! I am John your Warden for Lupton Residences.

I have worked at the University of Leeds since 2016 - 10 years! Currently I am School Manager in the School of Media and Communications.

I'm originally from Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland which is just north of Dublin.

I studied English and Music at Maynooth University and after a spell teaching English in Korea, came to Leeds to study an MA in Music Production at Leeds Beckett University in 2014.

I fell into a role working in University residences and have since worked across LBU and University of Leeds since.

A fun fact about me is that I write electronic music!

I've self-released four EPs over the years - all in the neo-classical/minimalist style akin to Kiasmos and Nils Frahm. I'm also an avid comic book collector.

My favourite place in Leeds is Cottage Road Cinema, just up the road from Lupton Residences.

It is a beautiful, old-school cinema that was been operating for a long, long time.

Hyde Park Picture House is always the cinema that gets mentioned, but Cottage Road has a certain charm that makes it a hidden gem.

My top three tips for living in Halls are:

Get to know the site team and Residence Life team. We are here to help!
There is so much to do in our local community of Headingley. Get out and explore!
Look out for one another in Halls. The transition to university life is tough for everyone, so make sure to check in on your flatmates and friends.

Residence Life Social Committee

Whilst in Halls you have the opportunity to join your Residence Life Social Committee!

The Residence Life Social Committee programme (RLSC) provides you with the opportunity to run events for residents in your hall, and to make the most of your time in halls.

You'll meet regularly as a Committee and work within a budget to plan exciting social events, fundraisers and campaigns. It’s a great way to meet people, get involved in the community and develop important professional skills including event management, teamwork and time management.

You will also get to be part of a wider personal development programme focused on expanding your leadership and team-building abilities.
