Join us for the final Yorkshire Wildlife Trust day!

Note: This is the last Yorkshire Wildlife trust event that we will be hosting so it's the last opportunity students have to take advantage of a free YWT conservation day.

  • Registration deadline:  9am, Friday 12th June
  • How to join: Email Jax Metcalfe (J.Metcalfe1@leeds.ac.uk) and let her know that you will be attending and any dietary requirements you have.

Spaces are limited. Please only sign up if you are 100% committed to attending, as no-shows deprive other students, lower group productivity, and waste food.

About Townclose Hills Nature Reserve:

This Site of Special Scientific Interest features the county’s largest magnesian limestone grassland plateau, offering beautiful panoramic views alongside diverse woodland, meadows, and spring-fed pools.

The site comes alive in summer with orchids, clustered bellflower, field scabious, sanicle, and rare ploughman’s spikenard. It is a vital haven for gatekeeper, speckled wood, and comma butterflies, plus birds like the yellowhammer, fieldfare, and lesser spotted woodpecker.

Hear from previous students who attended a Wild Word Day:

Today was pretty interesting and I developed a relationship with my local environment, and did things that are beneficial for the environment. I think it’s important for gaining practical work and skills, and to show that you’re interested in the environment, which helps when looking for jobs.

Jamie Slater, School of Earth and Environment

It was nice to be outside and see some of the countryside; I have no other way of getting to different areas otherwise. I would recommend it.
